Buyer Safety

Buying with Confidence

Contact The Seller

Communicating with your transaction partner is an important part of buying and selling on eBay. Most transaction problems can be prevented, as well as resolved, by communicating directly with the member. Here are some tips to make communication easier.

You never have to buy an item you’re not sure about. If you have any doubts or questions, you should ask the seller a question before making a purchase.

Example Questions:

  • Is this item compatible with…?
  • Has this item ever been used/worn/played?
  • Does this item come from a non-smoking environment?

Review Feedback

Before you purchase an item, it’s a good idea to check the seller’s profile to view their review ratings and comments. Sellers may also want to view a buyer’s profile to see how reliable the buyer has been in the past.

Every review or comment is a member’s gauge of trust here on SpreeCrunch - it offers you more info about the seller before you make a purchase. To check the review and comments for a particular member, click the profile link for the sellers. Usually, a high review and comments score is a good sign, but reviewing the seller’s comments left by past buyers can give you a more complete picture of the member’s trading experience.

Protect Your Purchase

If you’ve problems with your purchases, SpreeCrunch has several suggestions for you.

Item not received or significantly not as described process

If you have paid for an item, but didn’t receive it, or you paid for and received an item, but it was significantly different from the item description. Step-by-Step Guide to Buyer Protection

Most common issues can be resolved by communicating directly with the seller.

  • Email the seller.

If you are still concerned, email the seller with your questions. If you don’t have the seller’s email address, you can request it from SpreeCrunch or ask in their profiles or comments section.

  • Check your email spam filters for messages from the seller.

It’s possible that the seller is trying to email you but your spam filters are blocking the messages. Apply Murphy’s Law.

  • Check your own contact information.

It’s possible that the seller is trying to email you but your contact information is incorrect. Make sure your email address is correct.

  • Reach out one last time to the seller.

Apply Murphy’s Law at times.

  • Call in the Police.

If all avenues have been tried and you feel that you’ve been a victim of a scam. You’re advised to make a police report. Please go into the specifics and provide relevant information to the Police.

Review the Seller’s Policies
Shipping and handling – Review shipping and handling charges before making a purchase, and ask to have your item shipped and in a traceable manner. See more information on shipping and handling.

Returns – Examine the seller’s return policy carefully before you bid. Contact the seller before you bid with any questions about the return policy. Some questions you might want to ask include:

  • Does the seller accept returns, or is the item sold “as is”?
  • Under what circumstances can you return the item?
  • Do you have to return the item to the seller within a certain time period?
  • What kind of refund does the seller provide?
  • Who pays for return shipping and handling?
  • Does the seller charge a restocking fee?

We hope the article above has given you a fair idea on how to protect yourself when making online purchases. Exercise caution and never let your guard down if something seems too good to be true.
